It appeared that Denver Nuggets and NBA superstar Nikola Jokic would be joining the Serbian National Team this summer, but official confirmation was given just this morning.

The official FIBA EuroBasket account posted about Jokic and Team Serbia’s official roster this morning, and it’s a stacked group.

Nikola Jokic headlines a roster that features several NBA players, including Bogdan Bogdanovic, Vasilije Micic, Nikola Jovic, and two even younger Serbian players in Tristan Vukcevic and Nikola Topic.

Other veterans well known for their contributions in past Serbian National Team activities will also participate. Aleksa Avramovic, Ognjen Dobric, Marko Guduric, Vanja Marinkovic, and Nikola Milutinov are among the familiar names and faces, making this Serbian roster one of the strongest they’ve ever put together.

For Jokic, this is his second offseason in a row in which he’s participated with the Serbian team, the first time that’s happened in his NBA career. Jokic is becoming a mainstay in international competition, especially after last year when Team Serbia nearly upset Team USA in the Semi-Finals of the Olympics. That USA roster was stacked, and the Serbia roster wasn’t as good as it will be for EuroBasket this year.

Jokic has always had immense pride for his country, and there’s a burden of responsibility that will always be felt trying to live up to Serbia’s incredible basketball history. The last gold Serbia brought back home was in EuroBasket of 2001, and they will attempt to do so again this year. Jokic will be an important leader and the clear best player for the roster. Whether that translates to success in EuroBasket competition remains to be seen.
