The Denver Nuggets went 3-1 this past week, and though the NBA often likes to reward players on teams that went undefeated during the week, it’s hard to ignore those numbers for Jokic. In four games, he averaged 36.5 points, 16.5 rebounds, and 11.3 assists per game. It wasn’t his most efficient week from a shooting perspective, but he made up for it in volume, simply willing the Nuggets to wins in a variety of situations.
Against the Utah Jazz, Jokic produced 36 points, 22 rebounds, 11 assists, and four steals in an 11-point win. He had a plus-minus of +20 while on the floor.
Against the Atlanta Hawks, Jokic produced 23 points, 17 rebounds, and 15 assists in just three quarters of a blowout win. He was +31 in just under 30 minutes.
Then, against Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs, Jokic and the Nuggets split the back-to-back in clutch games. In the loss, Jokic had 41 points, 18 rebounds, and nine assists. In the win, Jokic had 46 points, nine rebounds, and 10 assists.
Jokic was one assist and one rebound away from four triple-doubles this week, an impressive feat for anyone. For Jokic, it was Week 11 of the NBA season.
On the whole, the Nuggets have turned their season around in recent weeks due to the stability and production of Jokic. Without him out there playing a career high in minutes and averaging a career high in points, who knows where the Nuggets would be. He’s a leading candidate for another MVP award, and his overall level of production in the last five seasons is unprecedented.
This week’s award is just another in a long list of honors Jokic has accrued in his career, and it won’t be the last Player of the Week award the NBA bestows upon him.
