The Denver Broncos and tight ends seem somewhat like a cursed pairing as of late.
Last week, Auston Fort was carted off the field in the Broncos – Seahawks game and sustained a torn ACL, now out for the season. But he’s only one of a long list which includes Jeff Heuerman (broken ribs) and Jake Butt (torn ACL) which were both injured in 2018.
Now, add Fant to that list.
In the first quarter of the Broncos – 49ers game on Monday Night Football, Fant was hit hard on a short catch and had his leg rolled up on by a defender. Following that play, Fant got up and limped to the sideline where he continued to limp before sitting down on the bench and grabbing for his lower leg.
The Broncos quickly ruled him as “questionable” to return due to a foot injury. That’s terrible news for Denver, who’s searching for a playmaking tight end, needing that first-round pick to come through for them. He was officially ruled out early in the second half.
Back in April, the Broncos took Noah Fant at No. 20 overall during the NFL Draft after trading down from the No. 10 position. Fant was the second-best tight end at Iowa last year, a college team who saw two tight ends go in that same first round. It was only the second time in Broncos history they selected a tight end in that key, first round.
Fant, a giant at 6’4″ and 249 pounds, isn’t just big but he’s a talented pass-catcher as well. He caught passes for more than 1,000 yards with 18 touchdowns his last two seasons at Iowa, and Fant hopes to continue that success at the NFL level.
