The Denver Nuggets have officially fired head coach Brian Shaw. Brian Shaw was hired in June of 2013, after management released reigning NBA head coach of the year George Karl. Who brought the team to a 57-25 record.
Brian Shaw’s tenure in Denver was unsuccessful, in his first season as a head coach, Denver had a record of 36-46 in his first year as head coach. He also broke the franchise’s streak of 10 consecutive years of playoff berths. The Nuggets currently have a record of 20-39. Also, Denver is currently in the midst of a six game losing streak and 10 straight losses at home, one shy of a franchise worst record.
The team’s value has been brought down over the past two years with multiple injuries to key players, but Brian Shaw has not been capable of bringing Denver any success. Shaw has not been able to create a true bond with the team. He even decided at one point during the season to skip shoot-around so players can stay out and enjoy their nightlife.
Shaw retired in 2003 as a Los Angeles Lakers, and immediately joined the Lakers as a scout and later an assistant under Phil Jackson. From there, he went on to become an assistant coach with the Indiana Pacers and promoted to associate head coach. Before being hired by Denver, he was one of the league’s best up and coming head coach candidates.
