A new coaching staff and a new quarterback have the Denver Broncos looking to improve on back-to-back losing seasons that have featured lackluster offenses and tired defenses.
New offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello has been tasked with providing a more dynamic offense to help a star-studded defense. Les Shapiro of Afternoon Drive on Mile High Sports AM 1340 | FM 104.7 sat down with Scangarello to discuss his offense and the progress they’ve made this offseason.
“I feel great,” Scangarello said about the progress thus far. “You’re going to have good days and bad days, but it’s been steady progress. We have the right people in the building to be successful.”
Scangarello isn’t the only new addition to the offense. The Broncos traded for Super Bowl MVP quarterback Joe Flacco to run the offense, a move that was discussed during Scangarello’s interview with the Broncos. “I know that we had a vision for what this offense would like and of the options that were available, there was no question that we were unanimous in this building that Joe Flacco presented those opportunities.”
“We’re looking to be explosive, and every opportunity is an opportunity to score on every play,” Scangarello mentioned of his offense. He would go on to say later that, “By mirroring the run game with the play action game and the keeper game, that’s the core of the offense, and it’s to disguise it. To the defense it has to look the same in every facet… it’s plays playing off of plays.”
