Breakdowns in communication, turnovers, mental mistakes and frustration. None of it good, but all of it sums up the theme on Sunday for the Denver Broncos as they lost to Washington, 27-11.
“The first breakdown was communication between the two corners,” Joseph said of the miscommunication between defensive backs Aqib Talib and Chris Harris Jr. on a long touchdown pass to Josh Doctson in the third quarter.
“What we’ve done well over the last two weeks, it was working again. But obviously turnovers appeared again, that kills you,” Joseph said about his teams three giveaways. Brock Osweiler fumbled, then threw an interception in back-to-back possessions in the second quarter. Devontae Booker fumbled in the fourth.
Joseph also discussed a major mental mistake by Isaiah McKenzie to end the first half — one that prevented Denver from scoring to end the half.
“He should be aware,” Joseph said about McKenzie failing to get out of bounds as the clock wound down. “He was told. That stuff we work on all the time. That’s no excuse at all that he wouldn’t know that. He was told we had no timeouts; it was an outside throw, we had three points, that’s something he has to know. Unacceptable.”
Joseph has used that word to describe he’s teams breakdowns before. With just one game left to play and a 5-10 record, they’ll have a long offseason to think about them.
