With the 2024 NFL season on the horizon, analysts are eager to predict which teams will rise to the top. Pro Football Focus (PFF) has released its win total projections, and the outlook for the Denver Broncos is less than ideal. According to PFF’s advanced analytics, the Broncos face a daunting challenge in the AFC West, and could struggle to compete with the conference’s elite teams.

Denver Broncos

PFF’s analytics paint a concerning picture for the Broncos. Denver faces an uphill battle with a projected total of just 7.05 wins, the third-lowest in the entire league. This suggests a step back from their eight-win performance in 2023. To make matters worse, PFF also forecasts a demanding schedule for the Broncos, ranking theirs as the eighth toughest in the NFL.

Kansas City Chiefs

Unsurprisingly, PFF forecasts the Chiefs to reign supreme (again) in the AFC West, with a staggering 10.9 wins. Led by the seemingly unstoppable duo of Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid, the Chiefs’ potent offense remains a force.  An improving defense further bolsters their case for another deep playoff run.

Los Angeles Chargers

With a projected 8.4 wins, the Chargers would miss the playoffs as the AFC West’s eighth seed. However, optimism surrounds the team. Justin Herbert’s continued development and the arrival of new head coach Jim Harbaugh promise an explosive offense. Staying healthy and consistent will be crucial for their playoff hopes.

Las Vegas Raiders

Sitting just ahead of the Broncos, with a predicted 7.4 wins, are the Raiders. Uncertainties at quarterback and defensive inconsistencies temper PFF’s expectations. While weapons like receiver Davante Adams present danger, the Raiders desperately need improvement across the board to compete effectively in this loaded division.

It’s not only the AFC West teams that will make the Broncos’ chances this season difficult, but also the big AFC contenders outside the division.

Buffalo Bills

PFF predicts the Bills will be a force to be reckoned with in the AFC, projecting 9.7 wins. With Josh Allen at the helm of a high-powered offense and a defense that consistently stifles opponents, the Bills boast impressive depth and consistency. Look for them to be serious contenders for the Lombardi Trophy.

Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals, led by the electric Joe Burrow and his arsenal of talented receivers, are projected for 9.8 wins. PFF’s projections highlight Cincinnati’s explosive offense, which is further bolstered by a steadily improving defense. With Burrow back from injury, the Bengals are poised to be a strong playoff contender.

Baltimore Ravens

With a healthy Lamar Jackson and exciting new offensive weapons, PFF anticipates 10.2 wins for the Ravens. Their balanced offensive attack, combined with a defense that remains a cornerstone of their success, makes them a threat in the AFC.

Can the Broncos Buck the Trend?

Surrounded by such powerhouses, the Broncos are undoubtedly the underdogs this season. Key questions loom around their quarterback situation, how effective coaching will be, and if the roster is improved enough to compete. Training camp and the preseason will be crucial for Denver as they attempt to weather the storm brewing in the AFC West.
