The Colorado Rockies currently sit at 30-26, first place in the NL West. Even though they’re in first, Colorado’s a team that hasn’t played close to their potential.
Rockies analyst Jeff Huson joined Mile High Sports Radio and discussed the Rockies slow start at home, their potential outlook, as well as some of the young, up and coming players.
Speaking with Sean Walsh and Renaud Notaro of Mile High Sports AM 1340 | FM 104.7, Huson brings up that the Rockies may have finally turned the corner at home.
“I hope so. I think so after the last four or five games for sure,” said Huson. “Averaging about seven runs a ball-game, slugging close to .900. They’ve won four out of five. They’ve also had four-straight games where they’ve had double-digit hits. I hope all those numbers can continue to trend like what we’re used to seeing at Coors Field.”
The Rockies haven’t found their consistency yet this season, but they have played with the heart and emotion that you see from a playoff team.
“I love the way they really don’t every give up,” Huson continued. “They might punch-out more then what you’d like at times, but the bottom line is they’re five games over .500. They haven’t played their best ball on a nightly basis, and I just look at how resilient they are, and how they really kind of come to work every single day.”
Colorado is a team loaded with young talent, and a player in particular to that is David Dahl. Dahl, with a .275 AVG, 4 HR and 13 RBI, is a player that needs to be in the lineup every day, and can more than contribute to Colorado returning to the postseason.
“I think he’s close to a four-tool player,” said Huson. “I want to see where the power ends up eventually, but I think he’s a guy that can hit .300 average in the big leagues, steal you some bases, play good defense, and he’s very athletic. I look at David right now as a four-tool player.”
Since coming back up, Ryan McMahon is hitting .333 AVG, and has looked like a different hitter. Just what the Rockies need right now.
“I think since he’s come back, he’s done a much better job,” Huson continued on McMahon. “I think he was a little overwhelmed making his first big league roster out of spring training. I think he’s done a much better job, at least with his at-bats, and he’s played great at second base.”
