Colorado State redshirt-sophomore Nico Carvacho has been honored as 2018 Honorable Mention All-Mountain West by both the league’s coaches and media in two separate votes, announced today. The vote for both awards was done based on performance during conference games only.

For conference action, the center started all 16 games for the Rams averaging 11.1 points and a league-best 12.3 rebounds. He had 10 double-doubles in MW play and recorded seven of the top-14 single-game performances in MW action. He has double-digit boards in the last 15 games, averaging 13.8 rebounds a game in that span. His top game was against San Jose State, posting a career-high 26 points and tying his best with 20 rebounds, making him the first Ram since current Washington Wizard Jason Smith had one in 2007.

For the season, Carvacho is the leader on the glass for CSU with 321 boards (122 offensive) in 31 games (the only Ram to start all 31 this year). His 10.4 boards per game average leads the Mountain West. He also just had the sixth-ever individual 300-rebound season in CSU history, surpassing the mark at Nevada, Feb. 25. He currently stands at fifth on the single-season list with 321 rebounds this season. Carvacho is also second on the single-season offensive rebound chart and fifth on the defensive side, while he is just five rebounds shy of entering the CSU career rebounding chart at 526 for his two seasons of play.

Colorado State opens the 2018 Mountain West Basketball Championship as the No. 10 seed, taking on No. 7 Utah State, Wed., March 6 at 2:30 pm MT. The contest between the Rams and Aggies will be televised on the Mountain West Network as well as on Facebook Live on the CSU Men’s Basketball site. The game will air across the Colorado State Sports Network (along with online at CSURams.com), with Brian Roth and Adam Nigon on the call.
