The Broncos and Lions traded touchdowns on three possessions to end the first half (not counting Matt Stafford’s kneel down to kill it), with the Broncos owning two and a 14-6 lead at halftime.
But before the scoring action got rolling, the first half was dominated by defense, and takeaways (and near takeaways) were the big story.
After trading punts for two possessions, the teams traded interceptions. The Broncos nearly had to more turnovers as the half unfolded, but when time ran out on the first 30 minutes in Detroit the game was 14-6 Broncos.
Denver blocked an extra point, which was nearly returned for a touchdown by Chris Harris.
As usual, the Mile High Sports team and the Denver media at large was all over the action on social media as the turnovers unfolded (with a few assists from the NFL).
Bradley Roby got the turnover game started with this wildly athletic interception.
Roby with the Lester Hayes-like INT, minus the stickum used back in the day. Great stab.

Wow. Roby leaves his zone on the outside to jump the slot route and pick off the pass. Incredible awareness.

Best cornerback trio in the NFL!
— Will Petersen (@PetersenWill) September 28, 2015
Wow what a catch Roby
— Adam Kinney (@adamrkinney) September 28, 2015
INT marks the 2nd consecutive game with a takeaway for @BradRoby_1, who selected by the team in the 1st rd of the 2014 NFL Draft.

#ThisWeekInBradleyRoby: How about an over-the-shoulder flying pick off Matt Stafford? #DENvsDET http://t.co/wYJRdoUPUy
— NFL (@NFL) September 28, 2015
Shane Ray has been a ghost. But reminded that Roby was a ghost this time last year, and now he does things like that.

On the ensuing possession, Haloti Ngata got his hand up and blocked a Peyton Manning pass intended for a wide open Owen Daniels. The ball was picked off the carpet by Glover Quin. After a review, the interception was upheld, though Detroit could not manifest anything on the possession.
Peyton had Owen Daniels open for what probably would have been a TD. The ball was tipped by Haloti Ngata and intercepted. #DENvsDET

Looks like the interception will stand. As long as he has control…it's a pick.
— Raul Martinez (@RaulNBCBoston) September 28, 2015
Great play by Nagta. . .
— Gil Whiteley, Now and Then (@Gilfest) September 28, 2015
Aqib Talib nearly matched Bradley Roby with his own athletic pick, but Calvin Johnson had another idea for how the play would unfold.
Aqib Talib just has an interception taken from him by Calvin Johnson. #DENvsDET
— cover32 Broncos (@cover32_DEN) September 28, 2015
How did Talib not intercept that?
— Raul Martinez (@RaulNBCBoston) September 28, 2015
Yeah, so Calvin Johnson has strong mitts.
— Vic Lombardi (@VicLombardi) September 28, 2015
HEY MAN IT'S TALIB!!! almost had his 3rd pick… but Megatron is a nasty beast. made the catch..#DENvsDET
— Lionel Bienvenu (@lionelbienvenu) September 28, 2015
Aqib Talib thought he had a pick.
He thought wrong.
MEGATRON'S BALL. #DENvsDET http://t.co/OtVHaR1r8m— NFL (@NFL) September 28, 2015
Darian Stewart nearly created his third turnover in as many games with a strip that was eventually overturned.
Wow. @darianstewart26 just man stripped that.
— Raul Martinez (@RaulNBCBoston) September 28, 2015
Call overturned. No fumble. Lions keep possession.
— Andrew Mason (@MaseDenver) September 28, 2015
Even if it's not a fumble, tip your hat to the safeties tonight. Stewart and Ward are all over the place.
— Andrew Mason (@MaseDenver) September 28, 2015
backside on the ground…rip and fumble recovery by Darian Stewart will be overturned in my opinion… #DENvsDET still, great play!
— Lionel Bienvenu (@lionelbienvenu) September 28, 2015
Talib may not have made the pick earlier, but he did get up and block Matt Prater’s extra-point attempt, which Chris Harris nearly returned for two points.
#Broncos block Matt Praters' extra point, and Chris Harris Jr. started running it back! It was exciting as hell before Harris was tackled.
— MileHighReport (@MileHighReport) September 28, 2015
The new extra point rule is officially a success. Makes a boring play suddenly interesting. #NFL
— James Merilatt (@jamesmerilatt) September 28, 2015
Harris caught by a tight end there. Film room won't be friendly.
