The Colorado Rapids remain in second place in the standings by snatching a 1-1 draw at LA Galaxy on Saturday night.

After a goalless first half, Shkëlzen Gashi’s 51st minute screamer gave the Rapids a 1-0 lead. But just 11 minutes later, the home side found the equalizer as Daniel Steres was on the receiving end of a Steven Gerrard corner kick.

The first half was even-handed but the Galaxy had the better of the opportunities, forcing Tim Howard to make a number of fine saves. Nigel de Jong also came close to opening the score after seeing his header hit the post.

Just six minutes after the interval, the visitors would find the back of the net. Marlon Hairston laid the ball off to Gashi who one-timed a left footed strike into the top corner of the net. The Albanian international is now tied for first on the team with four goals alongside Doyle.

However, Daniel Steres would have the last word by notching his first MLS goal in the 62nd minute.

Despite a flurry of chances at both ends of the field, these two Western Conference rivals would have to settle for the tie.

Pablo Mastroeni’s men remain in second place in the Supporters’ Shield and Western Conference standings with a 11-3-9 (42 points) record, while the Galaxy overtake Real Salt Lake for the third spot in the West and sit four points back of the Rapids with a 9-3-11 (38 points).
