Following a disappointing 1-1 tie with D.C. United, the Colorado Rapids head northeast for a tilt with Toronto FC on Saturday afternoon. The club is helping to improve upon a 1-6-0 record in Toronto, having only secured their first road victory in the lifetime series last April.
Colorado will have its hands full on Saturday, hoping to shut down Jozy Altidore and Sebastian Giovinco. Altidore has 10 goals on the year, scoring at a 33.3 percent clip on shots. Giovinco is tied for third in MLS with 13 assists.
Toronto currently resides in the fourth slot in the Eastern Conference standings, four points ahead of their Canadian counterpart Montreal, who holds the fifth and final playoff spot in the east. Orlando City is a full five points behind Toronto.
Colorado is looking to return to winning form after seeing a three-game winning streak snapped by Vancouver and then taking the draw against D.C.
Toronto, meanwhile, has struggled of late as well, being outscored 7-2 in three consecutive losses at Seattle, vs. New England and at New York City. Greg Vanney’s club was held scoreless in their last outing and lost at home last weekend against the Revolution.
With their recent slide, Colorado has once again found themselves at the bottom of the Western Conerence. The Rapids have just six games remaining and must gain seven points on both Sporting KC and Portland (as well as hold off San Jose, Houston and Salt Lake) if they hope to extend the season beyond Oct. 25.
Kickoff from BMO Field on Saturday is at noon MDT. Catch the game on live on Mile High Sports AM 1340 or stream live online.
