The Colorado Rapids continued their unbeaten streak at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park by drawing with Orlando City SC 0-0 on Saturday night.

Despite plenty of chances, Pablo Mastroeni’s were unable to find the back of the net in what was ultimately a frustrating night.

“I think we created enough to win that game,” the head coach said postgame. “I think we weren’t as clinical as we needed to be in front of the goal. We had 13 shots, but one on target and in order to score goals, you need to put more on target. I think we did a lot of good things to put ourselves in positions to score goals. We put ourselves in a position to score goals and we just didn’t do enough to capitalize on our chances.”

It wouldn’t take long for Colorado to get in their groove though as Marc Burch found space on the left side sending in a cross for Kevin Doyle. As he does so well, Doyle created an inch of separation from his defender, but his headed effort sailed just wide of the post.

Doyle would see a second header go wide before the teams withdrew to the locker rooms for halftime.

“We did okay, not brilliant,” Doyle said postgame about the first half performance. “They didn’t seem to create much either and it seemed that we just cancelled each other out in the first half.”

This would turn out to be the theme of the night for the Rapids with great services in the box, but no end product.

A flurry of chances highlighted the beginning of the second half, the best of which came through Shkëlzen Gashi.

The Albanian found himself in a dangerous position inside Orlando’s box following a cross from Burch. He tried to find Marlon Hairston and Doyle with a cross of his own, but Antonio Nocerino was there to break up the play dangerously redirecting the cross off his own post.

“It’s frustrating. They didn’t look like they were going to score,” Doyle said. “They had a couple half-chances but we not much. We improved our play but it still feels like a loss. That being said, we drew at home and are still unbeaten here. We’ve put ourselves in a fantastic position in this last stretch of games and we will try to play our best stuff and make sure that we are in the playoffs.”

For all of the frustration that the lack of goals has created, the Rapids still remain unbeaten at home, which is no easy feat through 13 games.
