The Rapids waited nearly an hour and a half on Saturday night for their match against Sporting Kansas City to be officially postponed. They waited nearly three days for Major League Soccer to announce the make-up date. Now they’ll have to wait over five months for the match to actually be played.
Colorado announced that the regular season match has been rescheduled and will now be played on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 6:30 p.m. MDT at Sporting Park.
It was the first time a Rapids game had been postponed since their 2013 Home Opener against the Philadelphia Union.
The delays were a disappointment to Rapids coach Pablo Mastroeni, who told the Denver Post he had expected to play the match the following day (Sunday).
Colorado faces Vancouver next, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. MDT from Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on Saturday. The current forecast calls for a 60 percent chance of evening thunderstorms.
