The Denver Broncos quarterback search may have widened a bit after Nick Foles‘ Super Bowl MVP performance forced teams to consider calling the Eagles to find out what, if anything, that they might take in a trade for the 29-year-old.
Entering into the final year of his contract, it’s possible that Foles may not be available at any price, given that starter Carson Wentz isn’t assured of being ready for the 2018 season-opener after undergoing season-ending ACL surgery in mid-December.
In an interview with Aniello Piro of Mile High Sports AM 1340 | FM 104.7, Mile High Sports contributor Benjamin Allbright discussed Foles’ relationship with Denver — and how the cost may be above and beyond what the Broncos want to pay.
“Well there’s a relationship there; [trading for Foles would] probably cost more than what Denver wants to give up to do it, but there’s a relationship there,” Allbright said on Wednesday afternoon. “Bill Musgrave, the [Broncos’] offensive coordinator, was the guy who drafted Nick Foles in Philadelphia, so there’s certainly a relationship there.”
“I would suggest that it’s probably going to take a second-rounder and another conditional mid-round pick to get Nick Foles — and I’m not sure the Broncos want to pay that.”
In the event the Broncos do acquire Foles, they’d be getting a player who certainly has had his ups and downs in his career. From a stellar season in 2013, where he threw 27 touchdowns to only two interceptions, to 2016, where he reportedly nearly quit football altogether as he transitioned from team to team, Foles is the reigning Super Bowl MVP, and will draw interest from around the league.
