After Saturday’s game, Vic Lombardi reported that the Denver Broncos had asked veteran punter Britton Colquitt to take a pay cut. Now, 9News’ Mike Klis is reporting that Denver has begun shopping Colquitt’s name around the league to see if there’s interest in trading for the league’s third-highest-paid punter.
Colquitt is scheduled to make $3.25 million this season, and from every indication, the Broncos have no intention of paying that type of money to a specialist player.
Denver already has a succession plan, having drafted Riley Dixon in the seventh round of the NFL Draft. While he hasn’t had the best camp, he’s definitely the cheaper option.
According to Klis, some of the teams that could be interested in trading for Colquitt include the Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, Carolina Panthers and Chicago Bears.
