According to Steve Aschburner of NBA.com, Denver Nuggets first round pick Michael Porter Jr. underwent a second back surgery last week to help repair a herniated disk problem.

Ashburner reports the Porter’s camp believes the surgery will be a breakthrough for his herniated disk problems and that their plan is to not have him sit out the 2018-2019 season.

This would be Porter’s second reported back surgery after undergoing a microdiscectomy last November to repair his L3-L4 spinal disks. Porter’s reported recovery time for that injury was three-four months, which allowed him to play in Missouri’s final two games last season.

Averaging just 10 points and 6.7 rebounds per game at Missouri, Porter’s health caused him to slide to the Nuggets at pick 14 on draft night. With health being the biggest factor, the Nuggets took a risk on Porter that could pay off if he’s able to get back to 100 percent.
