The Los Angeles Rams just gave up the farm to move all the way up to the first-overall pick, and all reports are that they plan on taking a quarterback, specifically Carson Wentz.

And with a move like this comes league-wide ramifications. Suddenly, everything we thought we knew about this year’s upcoming draft has been skewed, if not flipped on its head entirely. For instance, as our own James Merilatt pointed out, this could close the door on a Colin Kaepernick trade.

Many had pegged the 49ers to select a quarterback with the seventh pick, but with Wentz being pushed up to one, that likely means Jared Goff will be pushed up a few spots, too, leaving San Francisco without much option at seven.

Conversely, with the Rams moving up to No. 1 to grab their franchise quarterback, the incumbent, Case Keenum, could quickly be coming available.

According to Troy Renck of the Denver Post, the Broncos had interest in Keenum early in the offseason, but were rebuffed after the Rams placed a first-round tender on him. But after the loot the Rams just gave up to get their quarterback of the future, don’t be surprised if they look to recoup some of those picks by trading their quarterback of the past.

And it makes some sense for the Denver Broncos.

For one, he’d be significantly cheaper than a guy like Kaepernick, and he has shown flashes at times. Since an 0-8 start to his career in Houston, Keenum has gone 5-2 in his last seven starts.

He’s not going to light the world on fire, but he’d be heavy competition for Mark Sanchez and Trevor Siemian.
