After fleecing Vernon Davis from the 49ers on Monday, Broncos fans’ appetite for win-now moves has only grown. Next on the menu: Joe Thomas.

It was revealed yesterday that starting left tackle Ty Sambrailo will miss the rest of the 2015 season with a season-ending injury, which makes the news that future Hall-of-Fame left tackle Joe Thomas is on the trading block all the more interesting. But according to Tony Grossi of ESPNCleveland.com, the Broncos have already had their eye on the Browns lineman for months.

Apparently, Denver offered Cleveland their 2016 first-round draft pick for Thomas, but the deal fell apart when the Browns began to ask for Shaq Barrett, too.

After seven games, that’s already looking like the right call. While Thomas is unquestionably a better player than Barrett, the second-year linebacker’s upside and potential longevity are much higher. What’s most impressive, though, is that John Elway and the Broncos brass were willing to bet on Barrett that early in the season. Remember, nobody expected Barrett to become the player he is this fast; I mean, he didn’t even make the active roster last season.

Still, it’ll be interesting to see if anything has changed. According to Adam Schefter, the Browns may be looking to get two first-round picks for their All-Pro tackle.

I don’t see the Broncos giving up two first-round picks, and I don’t see anyone else doing so, either. Right now, the only teams that would seriously be considering a Thomas trade are potential title contenders, and I’m pretty sure that any contender has a front office smart enough to know that the Browns are asking for more than a king’s ransom.

That said, if anybody is going to be willing to go all in on a trade, it’s going to be the Elway and the Broncos; if the Browns do end up dealing Thomas, they’d be hard pressed to find a better offer than the one I’m sure Elway is offering them right now.
