The injury adds to a growing list for the Colorado Rockies. Among them, Chad Bettis, Tyler Anderson, German Marquez and Jon Gray are also slated to miss the remainder of the season.
Dahl was placed on the 10-day injured list August 3 with a high right ankle sprain. The injury occurred on a wayward fly ball in centerfield that forced the outfielder to contort his body, subsequently stretching his ankle the wrong direction.
The injury ends what was a breakout year for the youngster. En route to his first all-star appearance, Dahl hit .302 across a career-high 100 games and drove in 61 runs. As part of the run production, he also racked up 15 home runs.
Injuries have been the story of Dahl’s three-plus-year career. A right foot fracture, stress reaction in his ribcage and ruptured spleen are also on the list of ailments for the outfielder.
In all, Dahl has been on the injured list seven times dating back to his minor league debut. Since 2016, he’s missed 309 possible games in the majors – including the latest season-ending injury.
Sam Hilliard, Raimel Tapia, Ian Desmond and Yonathan Daza have all taken separate turns filling in for Dahl. The results have lacked as the Rockies are 11-25 since his departure.
Looking ahead, Dahl figures to appear in both centerfield and leftfield next year. Alongside him will likely be both Charlie Blackmon and either Tapia or Desmond.
The injury is unlikely to impact the offseason training or exhibition slate for Dahl heading into the 2020 season.
