Antonio Senzatela can do it all, as he proved in Sunday’s 3-2 victory over the NL West rival San Francisco Giants.
“Senza” pitched five scoreless innings and helped himself in the second with a bases-loaded single to score two, and DJ LeMahieu followed that up with a sacrifice fly to push the Colorado Rockies ahead 3-0 early. It was a lead they’d never relinquish.
Partly due to their starting pitching. Senzatela gave up five hits in five innings pitched, with two walks and five strikeouts to keep the Giants without a run until late in the sixth.
That first run came after he was pulled, and Chris Rusin entered the game. Rusin allowed a single to Chris Shaw, scoring Joe Panik and bringing the game to 3-1, Rockies through six.
In the eighth inning, Adam Ottavino walked Panik and gave up a single to Austin Slater to make the game 3-2, which is as close as San Francisco would come to winning on the day. That’s because Wade Davis was able to pitch a one-two-three ninth inning in the much-needed win by the purple and black.
Colorado had lost two straight to the Giants coming into Sunday, but the win pushed the Rockies record to 82-67, tied for the division lead with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Those two teams face off in a three-game series in LA starting tomorrow night.
