In seemingly every week since the season’s onset, the Colorado Rockies have either been dealt an injury or had a player return from an ailment. The latest instance occurred Friday as the club announced that Chris Iannetta is being recalled after a rehab stint with Double-A Hartford.
Across eight at-bats with the Yard Goats, Iannetta went hitless with a pair of strikeouts. He had been relegated to the injured list with a right lat strain since April 15th. In his absence, the team went 10-5.
Prior to his injury, Iannetta batted .207 (6-for-29) across 10 games. The veteran catcher also hit a go-ahead home run in the 11th frame against the Tampa Bay Rays in the season’s first week. He will return to the club, hitting seventh in his first game back.
In Iannetta’s stead, Tony Wolters was given additional playing time. In his 12 appearances, Wolters slashed .361/.444/.444 and drove in six runs.
Drew Butera was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. In his time with the club, Butera played in seven games and hit .176 (3-for-17), including a pair of doubles.
In other injury news, reliever Chris Rusin was able to throw 20 pitches to hitters prior to the series opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The left-hander has been out all year with a lower back strain.
The next step for Rusin would be a rehab stint, though the club has yet to make a decision on his timeline or location of his impending return.
After the team’s latest moves, their 40-man roster sits at 39 players.
