Only a day after Tyler Anderson struggled once again, the Colorado Rockies announced his demotion to Triple-A Albuquerque.
In his latest start, another losing effort, Anderson allowed six earned runs including a pair of home runs. The start was his fifth consecutive start to open 2019 in which he allowed five or more earned runs in five or fewer innings. The feat was the first occurence since 1913 per Elias.
“There wasn’t one thing,” Manager Bud Black said. “There’s a number of things that go into these decisions. Ultimately (it’s a) performance game and we felt Tyler (Anderson) wasn’t where he needs to be.”
On the year, amongst his struggles, Anderson has hurled 20.2 innings and allowed 27 earned runs. He’s also allowed eight long balls, only a year after allowing 30, a National League high.
Harrison Musgrave was also placed on the 10-day injured list with a left elbow flexor strain.
“There’s a flexor, pronator issue that popped up during Harrison’s outing (last night),” Black said. “It’s too early to really give a distinct diagnosis yet… he was a little bit revved up last night around the elbow joint and flexor mass.”
On the year, Musgrave has been a surprising contributor to the bullpen. In 10 appearances, he allowed four earned runs and struck out 12.
The Rockies recalled both Yency Almonte and DJ Johnson from Albuquerque to fill their pair of vacancies.
Johnson, the most utilized of the two, has accrued 12 appearances with the big league club this year to the tune of a 5.59 earned run average. In a pair of appearances with the Isotopes after his demotion, Johnson pitched three scoreless frames.
