The Colorado Rockies lost to the Miami Marlins Sunday afternoon, 8-5. The loss was the second straight for the Rockies who ended their seven-game homestand with a record of 4-3.
The start of the game was pushed back due to storms in the area and effected Rockies starter German Marquez on the mound.
Marquez surrendered a double to Dereck Dietrich on the first pitch of the game which was followed by back-to-back-to-back hits, two of which scored runs to put Miami ahead 3-0 in the first inning.
DJ LeMahieu worked a walk to start the bottom of the first inning, and Nolan Arenado proceeded to blast a two-run home run to make the score 3-2.
Dietrich hurt Marquez again in the second inning as he hit a solo home run to start the inning which put Miami ahead 4-2.
The Rockies were able to battle back in the bottom of the third inning when Trevor Story hit a two-run single to tie the game at four runs apiece.
Marquez was unable to protect the score as he surrendered an RBI double to allow the Marlins to retake the lead and end his outing. Miami platted another run, this time off of Chris Rusin, making the score 6-4.
Colorado pushed another run home in the following inning off the bat of Gerardo Parra who hit a solo home run to make it a one-run ballgame.
The Marlins busted the game open in the seventh inning where they scored two runs on three hits. Lewis Brinson ripped a triple to score a run which was followed by an RBI single hit by Dietrich, making the score 8-5.
The Rockies went down quietly in the final innings en route to the loss.
The Rockies are off Monday before starting a three-game series with the San Francisco Giants starting on Tuesday.
