The Colorado Rockies announced Sunday that they have reinstated infielder-outfielder Ian Desmond from the 10-day disabled list (right calf strain) and have placed right-handed pitcher Tyler Chatwood on the 10-day DL (right calf strain).
Desmond was placed on the disabled list on July 3, his second stint on the DL after beginning the season on the 10-day DL with a fractured left hand. In 57 games in his first season with Colorado, Desmond is batting .283 (62-for-219) with 31 runs, six doubles, one triple, five home runs, 26 RBI, 10 walks and 10 stolen bases. Tin parts of eight Major League seasons with Washington (2009-15), Texas (2016) and Colorado (2017), the Sarasota, Fla., native has batted .268 (1,157-for-4,324) with 562 runs, 220 doubles, 25 triples, 137 home runs, 544 RBI, 286 walks and 153 stolen bases.
Chatwood, was removed from Saturday night’s game after pitching one-third of an inning and allowing four runs on one hit with three walks. In 19 starts this season, Chatwood is 6-11 with a 4.74 ERA (106.1 IP, 56 ER), 94 hits, 60 walks and 87 strikeouts. In 116 career appearances, 107 starts, between Los Angeles-AL (2011) and Colorado (2012-17), he is 38-42 with a 4.29 ERA (606.1 IP, 289 ER), 620 hits, 283 walks and 405 strikeouts.
