The Colorado Rockies are in their 25th season, but what they accomplished on Friday night at Coors Field hadn’t been done in the National League for 43 years before they played their first game.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Colorado’s Trevor Story hit a grand slam home run and Charlie Blackmon hit an inside-the-park home run, both of San Francisco’s Johnny Cueto.

According to STATS Insights, via Anthony Masterston of the Purple Dinosaur Podcast, it was the first time a NL team had hit a grand slam and an inside-the-park home run in the same inning since 1950.

Coincidentally, it was the Giants – back in their New York days – that accomplished the feat previously. The Red Sox did it in the American League as recently as 2011, according to Rockies PR.

It was the first grand slam of Story’s career, and it gave Colorado a 4-3 lead at the time.
