This week the Rockies reportedly had a meeting with Carlos Gonzalez about him parting ways with the organization; however, Gonzalez has since denied the report.
Thomas Harding, though, said a trade for Gonzalez with the Indians makes sense for both sides.
“During the offseason, I know that (the Indians) and the Rockies talked an awful lot about Carlos Gonzalez ending up there,” Harding said on The Morning Huddle on Mile High Sports AM 1340 | FM 104.7.
The Indians are one of the hottest teams in baseball right now, but Harding thinks they’re offense isn’t quite World Series ready. Their pitching maybe be one of the the best staffs in the league, and they may even have some arms they’d be willing to trade for a power bat like Gonzalez.
“Offensively I don’t think (the Indians) are quite a World-Series-winning team, but pitching wise they are, and that’s more important,” Harding said.
Cleveland is fifth in MLB in team ERA, fourth in batting average against and second in complete games thrown. Gonzalez wants to win and is frustrated with not winning in Colorado, and going to the Indians would put him on the winning team that he desires.
“There is all kinds of pitching depth there, you would like for them to get one more guy,” said Harding. “What would happen if, first of all, they gave up some form of really good pitching that could help the Rockies this year and next.”
A trade like this could benefit both teams and give fans of two struggling organizations something to finally cheer about.
