In 2007, the Colorado Rockies finished the regular season by winning 14 of 15 games to leap from fourth place in the NL West into what would eventually become their first and only World Series appearance. ROCKIES 10, DODGERS 4
Looking for the sweep of the Dodgers in their last series of the season, the Rockies’ offense accelerated late, putting up seven runs in the second half of the game to pull away and win their 11th in a row.
In the fourth inning, third baseman Garrett Atkins and right fielder Brad Hawpe hit back-to-back home runs to put the Rockies up 3-0. The Dodgers answered with two of their own to bring the score to 3-2 until the sixth, where the Rockies connected to score for three consecutive innings.
Through the eighth inning, the Rockies put up seven more runs. Hawpe would hit three-for-five with four RBI’s and Atkins would go four-for-four with three runs and two RBI’s. First baseman Todd Helton added another homerun and had two RBI’s in his only hit of the game.
Starting pitcher Franklin Morales gave up four hits and three runs through five innings of work. The Rockies used five relievers for the final four innings, only allowing three more hits and one more run through the rest of the game.
With their 11th win in a row in the bag and a sweep of the final road trip of the regular season, the Rockies kept a hold on their position of being one game back for the Wild Card spot. The Rockies headed home to face off against the division champion Arizona Diamondbacks in the final series of the season.
