Patrick Roy has never been shy about speaking his mind. Tuesday night Roy was honored at the final of the Mastercard Memorial Cup which is the championship for the Canadian Hockey League. Prior to the ceremony Roy spoke to the press about fellow NHL head coach Mike Babcock’s new 8-year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs worth an average of $6.25 million per year.
“If you look at all the sports, I think hockey was a little behind, looking at coaches being paid,” Roy said. “And not just the coaches, the assistant coaches as well. I think our game needs to look at this and I hoe that the what happened with Mike will help other coaches and assistant coaches one day.”
Roy signed a 3-year deal with an option for a fourth in 2013 with the Avs. After taking his club to the playoffs in his first season, maybe he is beginning to plant the seed for a raise after next season.
