In the world of hoping for a superstar quarterback, Russell Wilson is still high on Broncos Country’s list.

Aaron Rodgers may be higher, but Wilson would be a wonderful addition in the Mile High City.

However, for one of those faces of the NFL to be traded, a lot has to happen first. And in the case of both Rodgers and Wilson, each star quarterback has recently said they want to stay in their current cities — Green Bay and Seattle, respectively — rather than trying to jump to a new franchise.

A week ago we explored Rodgers, Wilson, Deshaun Watson and others’ near futures, and last weekend Wilson explained, “My goal is to win more Super Bowls. And my plan is to win one here. It’s that simple.”

However, on the Sunday morning of Wild Card weekend, Ian Rapoport is reporting sources close to Wilson say the quarterback is indeed open to exploring his options.

“Wilson has not demanded a trade, and it’s not clear if he will,” Rapoport reported. “But at the least, those close to Wilson say he wants to investigate other destinations to see if those would put him in a better position to win another championship and create the legacy he sees for himself.”

Last year, as Rapoport points out, the Seahawks nearly traded Wilson to the Bears, but that never fully developed.

Back in December, a report surfaced saying Wilson would be willing to waive his no-trade clause if it meant going to Denver, the Giants or Saints, so it’s possible the Broncos are on his radar.

Without a doubt, George Paton fielded a competitive team in 2021, his first as an NFL GM, and many believed the Broncos were a quarterback away from making the postseason. Or, from even competing for a Super Bowl.

Wilson could be the answer at quarterback, and at 33 years old, he still has tread left on those tires. However, it must be noted Denver would have to trade away multiple high draft picks as well as some current talent.

But, in quarterback-desperate Denver, no price is too high for “the guy.”

Speaking of the Mile High City, the team is in flux currently.

Vic Fangio and his staff were fired and Paton is currently in the middle of interviewing 10 different head coaching candidates. Notably, Dan Quinn — who some believe to be the frontrunner for the job — was with Seattle and Wilson in 2013-14 when their defense was dominant and beat the best-ever NFL offense in the Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII. Could hiring Quinn help lure Wilson to the Broncos?

Meanwhile, there will be changes all the way at the top of the food chain in Denver, too; the Broncos are cleared for sale and both Peyton Manning and John Elway are among two different groups who will make a bid to buy the team.

As for now, reports indicate the Seahawks aren’t looking to trade Wilson and he has two years left on his current contract. But, things can always change, and in a hurry.

Update: Per Chris Mortensen, the Seahawks are keeping Pete Carroll and GM John Schneider for 2022. That could help keep Wilson in Seattle.
