After Thursday’s opening five-under 65, Sam Saunders sat tied for 12th and three shots off the lead.

Friday’s second round saw Saunders tee off in the early morning at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. needing a top-5 finish on the weekend to qualify for the FedExCup playoffs.

While it wasn’t the greatest of rounds for Saunders, a Fort Collins resident, he is still in it with a chance to get a top-5 as he will play the weekend.

Starting on the back nine Friday morning, Saunders began poorly with a double bogey on the par-4 11th hole followed by another bogey on the par-4 14th. Saunders would settle down and get two shots back with birdies at the par-5 15th and the par-4 18th, making the turn at +1.

The front-nine saw Saunders play much better with no bogeys recorded and two consecutive birdies on the par-4 4th hole and the par-5 5th hole.

The result was a one-under 69 for Saunders, which leaves him at six-under and currently still T-12 and five shots off the lead going into the weekend.

With the afternoon groups getting started, it is possible that the lead will grow by a few shots, which will make Saunders have his work cut out for him over the weekend to get a top-5 finish and a ticket punched for the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
