There’s no question that the 2020 Broncos season has been one of the more inconsistent years they’ve had in quite some time. The high and low season has had more lows than highs. And after a disappointing second half against the Buffalo Bills on Saturday, Denver has reached a new low.
“Very disappointing,” Broncos coach Vic Fangio said of his team’s second-half performance. “I thought offensively, we had a pretty good first half. Then in the second half, particularly in the third quarter and early in the fourth, we couldn’t get anything going offensively. And while that’s going on, defensively we were struggling to stop them.
The Broncos were outscored 27-7 after the halftime break in a 48-19 blowout loss. Quarterback Drew Lock, who had the game of his career against the Carolina Panthers a week ago, recorded just one touchdown and a low 132 passing yards. Meanwhile, Josh Allen of the Bills threw for nearly three times as many yards — finishing with two touchdowns on 359 passing yards and another two rushing scores.
But even with the defeat and the feeling that things are looking bleak for the now 5-9 Broncos, Lock continues to keep a positive mindset going into the last two games of the season.
“It was definitely a bad day,” Lock said. “It was not a good day for us. I wouldn’t say that any of us are feeling in a way that we’re taking a step back, but that was not a good day for us, by any means and our job is to figure out why it wasn’t, what we did wrong, what we could have done better and go from there.”
The Broncos’ disappointing season will continue with a matchup against the LA Chargers on Sunday before closing out the year at home against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Denver defeated the Chargers 31-30 on Nov. 1 after a three-touchdown fourth quarter to complete the comeback. Certainly, the Broncos are hoping for a similar performance next week, especially in the second half, as they look to salvage what’s left of its lowly 2020 season.
At least it’s almost over.
