It’s going to be a tricky one on Sunday for the Denver Broncos, as they’ll matchup against the San Diego Chargers for the second time in just 18 days; they’ll be doing so on short rest, too, which was also the case last time.
The Broncos are looking to sustain the momentum they picked up by handily beating the Houston Texans on Monday night. San Diego is looking to pick up its third good win in a row and keep itself relevant in the AFC West race.
It is pretty much all or nothing for the Chargers in this game, even given their recent success. If San Diego loses, they fall to 3-5, while Denver would go to 6-2. A Broncos’ loss would drop the team to 5-3 and even the Chargers out at 4-4, giving San Diego the tiebreaker over Denver. It’s safe to say this is a huge game for both teams. The Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders will also have a close eye on this one as both of these teams enter Week 8 with just two losses.
Due to C.J. Anderson‘s knee injury, there will be a ton of national attention on Denver’s run game, but the Broncos will be fine. This injury is similar to the DeMarcus Ware injury. The Broncos will be hurt in terms of missing Anderson’s leadership, but the fact of the matter is that Denver has more-than-capable replacements in Devontae Booker and Kapri Bibbs.
San Diego is going to be able to move the ball on Denver’s defense. The question is: Are the Broncos going to give up field goals again, or touchdowns? Denver’s offense will be better than it was in their first meeting. Fans won’t see the same discipline mistakes along the offensive line that they did in the previous game with the Chargers. Expect a different game plan in this one for Denver’s offense. It will definitely not be as bland and conservative.
I have a feeling the Broncos are going to need big points in order to win this game. Philip Rivers loves to play in Denver and San Diego has had success at Mile High. The Broncos have success on offense and do just enough on the defensive side of the ball to contain Rivers. Denver beats San Diego 30-24.
The Broncos remain undefeated when both Gary Kubiak is on the sideline and Trevor Siemian starts at quarterback.
