It’s no secret that the Broncos need offensive help. With the injuries to Andy Janovich, C.J. Anderson and Kapri Bibbs, this team was in need of a running back. On Monday, they picked up veteran Justin Forsett off waivers from the Detroit Lions.

Forsett played in Gary Kubiak‘s offensive system back in 2012 with the Texans and again in 2014 with the Ravens. The best season under Kubiak came in ’14 when he rushed for 1,266 yards and eight touchdowns in Baltimore.

With all of the injuries to their offense, the Broncos had to make a move to help Devontae Booker at running back, and they hope Forsett can be the guy

“If you look at this roster, it’s like a mash unit right now,” Arran Andersen told Gil Whiteley on Mile High Sports AM 1340 | FM 104.7. “You’ve got your quarterback dinged up, you’ve got your fullback out for the season and you’ve got two running backs now out for the season. You needed somebody to run with the football.”

Some had been calling for the Broncos to re-sign Ronnie Hillman off waivers after he was cut by the Vikings a few weeks back, but the Chargers were able to get to him first. This time, Forsett managed to make his way to Denver.

Either way, any running back in a Broncos uniform is going to be given the opportunity to contribute.

“At this point, they should be having open auditions for running back,” Andersen said. “I’m glad that Forsett was available. He’s a guy who comes in at least with experience within the Kubiak system and has shown that he can function well within the confines of it. To be honest with you, I like this pick up more then Ronnie Hillman.”
