As we near what may very well be the last game of Peyton Manning‘s career, it’s worth looking back at the day it all started.
18 years ago, with the first pick in the NFL draft, Manning was selected by the Indianapolis Colts out of the University of Tennessee. And while everybody knows Manning’s story frontwards and backwards, I doubt they knew this:
Peyton Manning’s nickname was “The Caveman”!
Today, everybody knows him as “The Sheriff,” but two decades ago, when people referred to Peyton Manning, they referred to him as “The Caveman.”
The other thing you can take away from that clip is just how absurd pre-draft rankings can be. Not only was Manning ranked third on Mel Kiper Jr’s big board, but he was ranked behind a guy named Andre Wadsworth, who played a grand total of three seasons in the NFL.
I’m guessing Kiper might want to have that one back.
But please, Broncos Country, someone go to Super Bowl 50 in a caveman costume. Maybe it’ll put a little bounce in Manning’s step?
