The Colorado Rockies certainly have struggled in the starting pitching department. With a 5.85 ERA through four starts in 2018, Rockies starter Kyle Freeland is one of those pitchers looking for a rebound.
But while the struggles have been in bunches for Freeland this year, the Thomas Jefferson High School product says that it’s far too early to call 2018 a ‘Sophomore Slump’ and that he’s adjusting.
In an interview with Eric Goodman of Mile High Sports AM 1340 | FM 104.7 inside the Rockies clubhouse, Freeland says that it’s not quite a sophomore slump that he’s going through, but more so a learning curve.
“I think it’s early to call it a sophomore slump, it’s only four starts in, but certainly there’s a learning curve.”
Freeland is set to make his fifth start of the season Tuesday against the San Diego Padres at home and says that he’s learning to make counter adjustments, to the adjustments hitters are making to counter himself.
“Last year, teams made adjustments to me and I was learning how to make an adjustment back to them and kind of still learning that as this season has started,” Freeland said, who also note that you’re always adjusting as a pitcher in the major leagues.
“It’s a learning curve, no matter how many years you have in this league, you’re going to have to make adjustments constantly.”
