Stage 6 of the Tour de France on Thursday was another drama-filled stage of the Tour, similar to Stage 5. Leading American and Aspen resident, Tejay Van Garderen remains in third place 25 seconds behind leader Tony Martin who was involved in a crash approximately 1 km from the finish line.

Zdnek Stybar won stage 6 (191.5 km) but that was the secondary story on the day.

Mixed feeling for Etixx-Quick Step in Le Havre: Zdenek Stybar anticipated the bunch sprint to win stage 6 while race leader Tony Martin crashed in the last kilometer and crossed the line obviously injured and likely to pull out of the Tour de France. Daniel Teklehaimanot made history for Africa with taking the polka dot jersey.

Unbelievably, race leader Tony Martin crashed so close to the end of stage that he will still be given the yellow jersey if he is able to continue. Right now, Martin is a major doubt and could not even grip the handlebar with his left arm as his teammates helped him cross the finish on Thursday.

Looking ahead, Stage 7 (190.5 km) will be one of the final flat stages before a medium-mountain stage in Stage 8 (181.5 km) and then a team time trial for Stage 9 (28 km).

July 13 will be a rest day for all riders before the Stage 10 and mountain stages take over the Tour. During the intense mountain stages, riders can expect steep climbs and narrow descents.

For American fans and the BMC Racing Team, Teejay Van Garderen is still in with a great chance.
