Less than 72 hours after Trevor Siemian sustained a sprained shoulder during the 27-7 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the quarterback said he expects to play on Sunday.
“I feel pretty good right now,” Siemian said on Wednesday. “Better than I was yesterday, just taking it one day at a time.”
Although Siemian was dressed and on the practice field for Wednesday’s practice, he did not throw the ball during the portion of practice that was open to the media.

Head coach Gary Kubiak said it was the plan all along to not have Siemian practice on Wednesday.
“We will give him another day of rest, see where he is at tomorrow, see how much we can get done tomorrow,” Kubiak said. “I expected him not to practice today.”
After Siemian sustained the injury on Sunday, rookie quarterback Paxton Lynch replaced Siemian and played well throwing for 170 yards on 58 percent completion with one touchdown and no interceptions in just over a half.
Lynch’s play raised questions on whether Siemian would be the starter once healthy; however, on Monday Kubiak put these questions to rest.
“Trevor is our starting quarterback,” Kubiak said. “Hopefully [Siemian will] be day-to-day here and get him to next week.”
Kubiak also said that it was not necessary for Siemian to practice this week in order to play against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
“’Could [Siemian] play without a lot of practice?’ That would never be a problem with him because he’s very bright in what we’re doing,” Kubiak said. “We’ll push to get there and be as good as we can be against Atlanta.”
Siemian’s injury, while a concern based on the fact that it is an injury, is not too serious, because it is to his non-throwing shoulder. The question for his status on Sunday will be if Siemian can move his body in a way that is not too uncomfortable.
“[Siemian is] just really sore, just going through that motion and going through the throwing motion,” Kubiak said. “Throwing the ball is not going to be a problem, it’s how does it feel when he moves his whole trunk.”
While the news seems encouraging for Siemian being available for Sunday, Kubiak is in no rush to make a decision thanks to the way Siemian prepares.
“I would take it all the way to game day,” Kubiak said. “I trust Trevor, he knows exactly what we are doing, he’s very bright. He’s on top of everything.”
This wouldn’t be the first time that Siemian played in a game without any practice. In Week 3 of the preseason, Siemian didn’t practice all week with a shoulder injury to his throwing arm, yet he still started the game.
Kubiak wouldn’t give an indication on whether Siemian needed to be 100 percent healthy in order to start on Sunday, but he did give an indicator on how he would decide whether he plays.
“We don’t want to ever put anyone out there that can’t do their job,” Kubiak said.
Although it is difficult to say definitively that Siemian will play on Sunday since he hasn’t practiced this week, all signs point that he will be the starter against the Falcons in just a matter of days.
