Statistically, Denver Broncos quarterback Trevor Siemian had a solid first season in 2016. He threw for 3,401 yards, 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Still, he sees room for improvement on offense.

“I think we’ve got to do a better job of scoring points,” Siemian told Les Shapiro and Mark Kizla during The Afternoon Drive on Mile High Sports Radio on Friday. “We were close last year. I thought we did some good things. We just didn’t quite get over the hump.”

Something that might help in that regard is new offensive coordinator Mike McCoy and expected new quarterbacks coach Bill Musgrave.

“I’m really excited for, as of now, coach McCoy and coach Musgrave coming in<” he said. “Obviously, really experienced guys. They’ve had a lot of success in the league. It’s going to be exciting.”

Just because he had some success last season however, doesn’t mean Siemian will be at the helm of the Broncos offense in 2017.  New coach Vance Joseph says there will be an “open competition” between him and Paxton Lynch. Competition though, is something that Siemian welcomes.

“That was kind of communicated to both Paxton and I towards the end of last season,” he said. “I think ultimately, it’s going to make both of us better. We both have got a ton of learning to do, obviously, in a new scheme; so, we’re going to be learning together, pushing each other and I think it will be good for us.”

Siemian is currently recovering from surgery on his non-throwing shoulder. Though he is still in a sling, he says that his recovery is going well.

“It will be a couple of weeks before I start rehab and doing those things, so I should be good to go by OTAs,” he said.
