All eyes are on first-year head coach Vance Joseph as he runs his first NFL training camp. So far it has been high energy from Englewood, though the first few practices were shorter than scheduled.
When asked about the energy in the first two days, Joseph was complimentary of his staff and players.
“It was great. The last two days have been really good. We’ve kept the fields nice and tight for the guys early on. It kind of builds the practice. It’s been excellent,” said the first-year head coach.
Joseph and the rest of the coaching staff were all encouraged by the level of intensity shown throughout the roster in the first two practices.
“It’s been great. It’s been really good even among the veteran players like D.T. (Demaryius Thomas) and Chris [Harris Jr.] today. I love that because if those guys can work, everyone else will follow,” Joseph told the media. “When you have the best working against each other every day like that, they’re going to get better. We have to improve everyone. D.T., Chris, Aqib [Talib] and Von [Miller]; we have to all improve. As coaches, we’re all improving every day.”
Coach Joseph used the idea of improving every day to talk about the shortened practices and where he plans on going moving forward.
“We’re going to build on this. The first day, we were in the red zone. It was more first and second down today. Just thinking about injury – hamstrings going in early on in camp. While we have a chance to build on this thing, that’s the way to go,” Joseph explained. “We’re probably going to add more team periods probably next week when the pads go on. It’s by purpose.”
Broncos training camp will continue through the weekend, and the coaching staff is hoping that the intensity and improvement will continue right alongside.
