After their seventh straight loss, a 21-14 stinker to the Oakland Raiders, Denver Broncos head coach Vance Joseph addressed the media to discuss the game and what went wrong.
It was easy to single out where it started to go wrong. Only three minutes into the first quarter, Raiders wide receiver Michael Crabtree shoved Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib into the sidelines and continued to push him backwards, triggering a full-blown brawl that extended from sideline to sideline.
“I don’t like it. It’s unacceptable,” Joseph said of the fight, which resulted in the ejection of both Crabtree and Talib. “We can’t lose a player for a personal battle… it’s nonsense, it’s silly.”
Joseph was forced to go to quarterback Trevor Siemian in the second half due to what was originally reported as an ankle injury for Paxton Lynch. Siemian would come in and throw two touchdowns, leading a furious comeback that came up just short.
Coach Joseph spoke about Siemian’s preparation leading up to the week, even knowing that he would be the backup.
“Trevor was totally locked in and engaged this week,” Joseph spoke of his second-year quarterback. “I was very proud of Trevor; how he handled the week… that speaks to Trevor and who he is as a person.”
