Phillip Lindsay has not only looked like the best running back on Denver’s roster: the undrafted free agent out of Colorado has legitimately been one of the best ball carriers in the entire league.
“He’s a pretty damn good football player,” Vance Joseph told the media on Monday.
Through nine games this season, Lindsay has 110 carries for 591 yards, and that does not even include all of his explosive runs that been called back due to holding penalties. Despite being overlooked during the draft process for lacking the size of a typical NFL running back, Lindsay has quickly proven that he is dangerous with the ball in his hands.
At his weekly press conference, Joseph praised Lindsay’s efforts this season and told reporters that Lindsay’s success is no fluke. Joseph pointed out that Lindsay is excellent at running behind his pads and avoiding direct contact. The second-year head coach also added that the flexible, young player is extremely durable as well.
Lindsay has been so impressive this season that he has largely overshadowed Denver’s 2018 draft class, which already appears to be one of the strongest that the Broncos have had in years.
With the emergence of Lindsay in the backfield and an athletic young wide receiver like Courtland Sutton on the outside, if the Broncos can find a young quarterback to develop, the Broncos could potentially have a dangerous offense for years to come.
