Von Miller is without a doubt a once-in-a-generation talent on the field, and what he’s doing off the field has made him a team’s dream as well.
According to a release, Miller will receive the 2019 Jefferson Award for Outstanding Public Service in Sports, which is handed out by Multiplying Good Foundation. Miller will receive that award on Tuesday, June 18 at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington D.C. and his presenter will be none other than pass-rushing star and former teammate DeMarcus Ware. Previous winners include Peyton Manning (2006), Shaquille O’Neal (2018) and Joe Torre (2017) among others.
“By providing a prestigious platform that recognizes outstanding, selfless acts of service, we motivate our award recipients to do more and we inspire others to take action in service to others, creating a ripple of good,” said Hillary Schafer per release, Multiplying Good Foundation CEO. “The youth, grassroots, corporations and notable national award recipients who join us at the D.C. Jefferson Awards represent the very best of our country, people who have dedicated themselves to serving others. By bringing them together and elevating their work, we inspire communities nationwide.”
Miller created and founded Von’s Vision in 2012 in the Mile High City, raising more that $4.5 million since then. The money goes towards low-income children getting the eye exams and the corrective help in the form of glasses.
On the field, Miller’s been the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year as well as the Super Bowl 50 MVP, putting together a storybook resume in terms of his on-the-field accomplishments. Outside the lines, Miller was named the Broncos’ 2018 Walter Payton Man of the Year Nominee as well as a finalist for the Alan Page Community Award.
Meanwhile, the greatest defender in the storied history of the Broncos is gearing up for his ninth season, already passing Simon Fletcher last year for most sacks in team history (98.0). And while most players slow with age, Miller enjoyed 14.5 sacks in 2018, the most since 2012 (18.5). He’s also currently hosting the Pass Rush Summit with Ware helping instruct younger studs like Aaron Donald and many more.
