With Mark Sanchez heading for surgery, and Paxton Lynch being the new face around town, the sports world seems to have forgotten about Trevor Siemian.
AP writer Arnie Stapleton joined Notaro and Big Dee on Tuesday, to talk about where Siemian belongs in the Broncos organization.
“Trevor is kind of the man in the middle there,” Stapleton said. “We have got to remember that Trevor is the one guy who has been in this system for a year. He only has one snap to his name, and it was a kneel down, but he does have more experience running Gary Kubiak’s offense than any of the quarterbacks in the room, so I think its a big opportunity for Trevor to maybe show what he has.”
Siemian had a quarterback rating of 116.6 through four years at Northwestern, and he has a full year of experience over both Sanchez and Paxton in the Gary Kubiak offense.
As of right now, it’s anyone’s race.
“They are talking right now about how they are all going to get the reps because they need to see them all work with the first team,” said Stapleton.
Regardless of what happens, the Broncos need to figure out who they are going to go with, and fast.
“When you get closer to the nitty gritty of August, you’ve got to decide who is your presumed starter, and who has a chance,” Stapleton said. “That third guy is going to be working with the end of the roster guys. I think It hurts Paxton if you’re divvying it up by thirds, than if you’re just going with Paxton, and lets say Sanchez.”
Splitting up the reps would take away some from the eventual starter, and that could have an impact later in the regular season.
