Will “The Thrill” Barton may be one of the more interesting players on the Denver Nuggets’ roster over the course of the 2017 season, thanks to an expiring contract that’s providing him with motivation to showcase his talents.
Barton is entering his third full season as a member of the Nuggets; becoming a Swiss Army knife for them in his tenure. Having played both guard positions in addition to the small forward spot, Barton’s versatility has been valuable to the team as they have continued building for future success.
Now with his future in limbo, Barton is dialed in entering his sixth NBA season.
“That’s just another thing I’m ready to embrace,” Barton explained. “It’s not just about the contract, about the money. It’s just about me showing that I’m one of the best in the league. That’s what it is for me, personally. I’m ready to take on the challenge. I feel like this is the time for me; [I’m] at a point in my career where I’m ready to really take off and in beginning of my prime. I have goals of being a starter and just seeing how far I can take it.”
The Nuggets are discussing a contract extension with guard Barton, according to Chris Hayes of ESPN.
Barton discussed the upcoming season — as well as his thoughts on the modern-day rap game.
Barton is averaging 13.6 points, 2.7 assists, and 5.1 rebounds per contest as a member of the Nuggets. He is expected to have a larger role this season following the departure of Danilo Gallinari.
With a lot of pressure riding on the Nuggets this year and an expectation of an expanded and more-varied game, this season provides a perfect opportunity for Barton to showcase himself earn his next contract. Nuggets fans can only hope that it’s from Denver.
