The International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships are beginning on this Friday all the way out in Copenhagen and Herning, Denmark and there will be four different members of the Colorado Avalanche playing for their four different respective countries.

The Avalanche will have three forwards playing in the IIHF World Championships. Forward Sven Andrighetto will play for Switzerland for the second time in his career. Tyson Jost will play for his home country of Canada for the first time during the IIHF World Championships. Mikko Rantanen, who is the most accomplished of the group in international play, will be on Finland’s national team for the third consecutive year and will also be an alternate captian as well. In addition to the three forwards, the Avalanche also have their newly-minted goaltender Pavel Francouz playing as well for the Czech Republic for the fifth-consecutive year.

The IIHF World Championships will start on Friday, May 4th and will run until Sunday, May 20th. Jost and Canada will play the United States on Friday while the other three Avalanche players begin their tournament on Saturday when the Czech Republic faces Slovakia, Finland goes to battle with South Korea, and Switzerland goes toe to toe with Austria.
