A league source has told Mile High Sports that former University of Colorado guard Xavier Silas has agreed to a training camp deal with the Denver Nuggets. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN was first on the report.
Silas has been working out with the Nuggets throughout the summer and it eventually led to a training camp invite. Silas is a hard-working and passionate player which makes him the ideal type of player to come into training camp and push the rest of the Nuggets roster.
Silas, who played four years of college basketball split evenly between Northern Illinois and University of Colorado, graduated from the University of Colorado back in 2010-11 and then went undrafted in the 2011 NBA Draft.
After failing to get drafted, Silas became the definition of a journeyman. He spent time with the Philadelphia 76ers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Washington Wizards in different capacities with trips to play in Israel, Argentina, Greece, Germany, and China mixed in. He also spent time with multiple G-League teams including the Maine Red Claws, Fort Wayne Mad Ants, Bakersfield Jam, and the Northern Arizona Suns. Most recently, Silas took his talents to Ice Cube’s Big 3 league where he averaged eight points and three rebounds for Tri-State.
Silas has just four games of NBA experience where he averaged 2.8 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 0.8 assists, but he has been working out with the Nuggets for years during the offseason. Silas has a relationship with parts of the Nuggets franchise which likely opened the door for him to receive a training camp deal.
Silas is the second player signed to a training camp deal with Denver with Summer League standout Emanuel Terry being the other.
