As CSU develops their new on-campus stadium set to open in 2017, a generous and anonymous gift of $20 million was recently donated in order to ensure that former coach Sonny Lubick will be honored each time players and fans step onto the field at the new stadium.

Lubick coached the Rams from 1993 to 2007, leaving his mark by leading the Rams to 108 wins, nine bowls, six conference titles, and being named the 1994 Coach of the Year during his career. There is no doubt that a coach with such impact deserves an honor as big as this one.

The naming of “Sonny Lubick Field” also keeps open naming rights for the stadium at large, which could provide an additional boost in funding to the $220 million project..

Though the anonymous donors could have named the field after themselves with the substantial amount of money they put forward, asking that CSU name it after Lubick demonstrates the kind of respect the university and onlookers have toward him.

Athletic director Joe Parker shows his admiration for the Coach in his recent tweet:

Though the former Coach was surprised and flattered by the generous donation put forth to honor him, it comes as no surprise to those who were lucky enough to witness Lubick lead the Rams over the years.
