Last offseason, Mike Sando of The Athletic interviewed an anonymous NFL general manager, who predicted the top 10 players off the board with a high degree of accuracy. Sando decided to bring the article back for another iteration this draft-cycle, though this time with a different GM and some extra front-office executives.
Sando’s article makes it seem that the Broncos are very likely to add a quarterback to the mix.
The anonymous general manager predicted North Dakota State product Trey Lance falling to the ninth pick and Denver selecting him, which would be both very surprising and exciting.
“They’ll take Trey Lance if he’s there,” the general manager said via Sando’s article. “I think you have five quarterbacks going in the top 10.”
This general manager also had the Falcons selecting Ohio State’s Justin Fields fourth overall, and four quarterbacks being selected in the draft’s first four picks. However, one of the front office executives Sando interviewed thought the draft would go differently.
They believe that Florida tight end Kyle Pitts will instead be selected fourth overall, with Fields then falling into Denver’s lap and Lance out of the top 10 entirely.
To add fuel to the fire, it was also reported on Wednesday by 9News’ Mike Klis that the Broncos would be attending the second pro day for both Lance and Fields.

The Broncos will reportedly be sending offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur to Fields’ second pro day, making it the first he’s attended personally this cycle. Alongside Shurmur, the Broncos are also sending director of pro personnel A.J. Durso.
Paton won’t be in attendance but that might not mean much considering he already watched both Fields and Lance in person — as he said was important to him — and this close to the draft it would make sense that he’s busy with our obligations he has back at Dove Valley.
