Colorado Avalanche forward Gavin Brindley suffered a lower-body injury in the first period of the matchup against the New York Rangers. The team announced he would not return to the game at the start of the second period.
UPDATE after the 6-3 win vs Rangers: “We’ll see how he presents tomorrow. He was sore, you know? He got hit behind the net, got dinged up, wasn’t able to come back out. So not great news, but we’ll see what tomorrow brings,” head coach Jared Bednar said.
The 21-year-old was playing on the second line with Brock Nelson and Ross Colton, as well as the power play.
Brindley has four goals and three assists in 17 games and is a plus-3. He started the season on the fourth line with Parker Kelly and Zakhar Bardakov. He was bumped up to the second line after Valeri Nichushkin suffered a lower-body injury against the Anaheim Ducks on Nov. 11.
The 5-foot-8 forward was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2023 (2nd round, 34th overall) and played one NHL game with the organization. He was traded to Colorado on June 27 for Miles Wood and Charlie Coyle.
He signed a two-year contract with the Avs on Nov. 11.
